Mariani Packing Company modernizes artwork management and accelerates collaboration with Loftware

    Introduction

For Mariani Packing Company, managing product artwork is a core business function. With 100+ product SKUs internationally, under multiple banners, artwork management requires regulatory compliance and private label customer support, with speed to market and process. As the company has grown, so has the need to manage many complex artwork and product development workflows. To keep pace, Mariani turned to Loftware to replace manual processes with a centralized, digital system built for scale.

    Challenges & Solutions

From paper folders to process bottlenecks

Before implementing Loftware, Mariani relied on physical folders and printed checklists to route artwork for review and approval. File folders were passed from department to department, and externally to third-party vendors over email.

Over time, those folders evolved into full product development jackets, containing artwork, certifications, sign offs, and supporting documentation. The result was a process that was difficult to manage, time consuming for employees, and increasingly hard to scale as SKU counts and regulatory requirements grew.

“We were routing paper folders by hand,” said Kristine Bonovich, Innovation Manager at Mariani Packing Company. “It just became really cumbersome to deal with.”

Prior to Loftware, we were routing paper folders by hand. This used up significant time that could have been spent on other initiatives.

Choosing a platform that balanced structure and flexibility

As Mariani evaluated digital workflow solutions, the team looked for something that would modernize artwork routing without overwhelming users who were new to workflow software.

Some solutions were too rigid, forcing predefined processes that didn’t match Mariani’s operations. Others were so open ended that they lacked the structure needed to guide adoption. Loftware’s solution stood out as the right balance.

“Loftware was kind of a happy medium,” Bonovich said. “It gave us a general template to start with, and also the flexibility to mold it to what we needed.”

    Results

One system, one source of truth

With Loftware in place, Mariani centralized artwork files, approvals, certifications, and revision histories into a single system. Instead of searching through emails or tracking down paper folders, teams now work from a shared source of truth.

“This helps keep everything centrally located, working from one source of truth”, Bonovich explained.

That centralization has proven especially valuable as Mariani collaborates with external printers, remote facilities, and international partners. SmartFlow enables faster, clearer communication without relying on fragmented email threads or manual handoffs.
