MODEX Momentum: Enterprise Labeling Gets a Lift

Last week’s MODEX 2018 event was a first for Loftware as we joined 925 other exhibitors in the more than spacious Georgia World Congress Center. We had never been to the show before, but judging by the great conversations we had with attendees—as well as the many relevant breakout sessions—Enterprise Labeling and Artwork Management clearly belong at this 4-day supply chain spectacular.

Billed as the “largest supply chain expo in North & South America”, MHI’s MODEX 2018 brings together the world’s leading solution providers showcasing the latest technology to help manufacturers in all industries reduce costs and improve efficiency. In addition to the exhibit hall, there is a full schedule of keynote speakers, theater presentations and education seminars that attendees can take advantage of.

Some of the key takeaways from our experience at the show included…

  • Integration more important than ever – Time and again we met with professionals from up and down the supply chain who complained of siloed, disconnected processes resulting in costly mistakes and delays. When we explained that our Enterprise Labeling Solutions integrated with sources of truth like SAP, Oracle and other systems to ensure label accuracy, their eyes lit up. Loftware has had this capability for a while now, and it’s still a leading topic of conversation that gets people's attention.

  • Reining in the approval process – Another issue that came up a lot is the lack of visibility and control when it comes to reviewing and approving not just labels, but packaging artwork. Today’s labels and packaging have so many stakeholders involved—from manufacturing and marketing to quality and regulatory—that it can be like herding cats to get final sign off. And even then, you may have missed someone along the way.

Fortunately, we were able to tell them about both Loftware Spectrum and Smartflow, which have built-in workflows to create a closed IMG_2366loop process to review labels and artwork, respectively. As organizations grow increasingly global with ever-changing branding, language and compliance requirements, it’s good to know there is an easier way to manage this complexity and still get product to market faster.
  • Warehouse wherewithal – From next-generation forklifts to automated case wrappers to do-it-all robots, MODEX served up a plethora of warehouse solutions—all aimed at improving efficiency. Enterprise Labeling can help there, too. Whether extending your label templates to suppliers to eliminate relabeling of inbound materials or integrating labeling with voice automation solutions like Voxware to dramatically speed up order fulfillment, Enterprise Labeling is a warehouse wonder.

What did you think of MODEX  2018? We’d love to hear from you. Overall, it was a tremendous event for exhibitors, presenters and attendees alike, and we look forward to returning in 2020. In the meantime, we invite you to check out some of our upcoming events as well as download our new white paper that addresses the convergence of enterprise labeling and artwork management. Something that we believe will be an even hotter topic in the coming months.
