  • Load Last Label Used - Loading the last label used (Options | Preferences | Design Options) now works as expected.
  • Reassign Printers - You can now select the Reassign option from the right-click menu on the last printer in the Device Configuration grid.
  • EPL Option – The Write Graphics to Image Buffer setting is now disabled by default for printers that use EPL and EPL2 control languages. If you have previously enabled this setting, it will NOT be disabled by upgrading.
  • Note: Older EPL control language printers do not support this option.
  • Back Feed on Toshiba TEC - The Backfeed option on the Toshiba TEC B472 now functions properly.
  • Scientific Notation in On Demand Print - Database Number fields will no longer be displayed in scientific notation in On Demand Print when there are more than 7 digits in the number.

  • Zebra Inc/Dec - The Zebra Native Increment/Decrement setting now works correctly with Code
128 bar codes if Always Download Format is enabled in Printer Settings.
  • Job Name in Status Client - The Job Name now appears in the Status Client when dropping CSV
    files.
  • ZPL ~EG command - Zebra is no longer supporting the ~EG ZPL command. This has been
replaced by the ^ID command. The ZPL II family driver will use the ^ID command instead of the
~EG command. Refer to the ZPL Programming Guide for more information.
  • Windows Printers - Improved performance when many Windows spoolers are being used
    simultaneously.
  • Labels with Layouts - Labels using Layouts now work correctly when printed from the On
    Demand Print Client.

What issues are known about this release?
  • WebListener Start Up Setting - When upgrading from a previous version of the Loftware WebListener service, the service start-up settings are reset. If you had switched the WebListener service to Manual start-up mode, it will be reset to Automatic. You must reset the mode after upgrading.
  • Net Send Not Supported - The Net Send Messenger Service is not supported on Microsoft
Windows 7, Vista, nor Windows Server 2008. Net Send messaging will not work with the Notification
Agent on these Operating Systems. Use SMTP to configure notifications on these operating systems.
  • NULL Characters in PAS File - A PAS file that contains a NULL character may print correctly, but
it will not appear complete in the Status Client using the Resend function.
  • Intermec Direct Protocol family driver - A non-printing field that is off the label can cause the
printer to fault with a "Field out of label" error.
  • IP Printer Error Could Shut Down LPS - Labels sent to a printer can appear to have printed
when they did not if an IP-port connected printer is paused, causing it to error, the print buffer is
filled, and then the LPS is shut down. *As a workaround for Zebra (ZPLII) and Intermec (IPL or Direct Protocol) printers you can enable Detailed Status (with Pre-Label Status and Wait on Errors enabled). This will prevent a label from being sent to the printer until any errors at the printer are cleared.
  • Batch Print Error - A batch print error when multiple printers are offline may be related to a Microsoft issue. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898468
  • Canceled Install - When canceling an install, a Loftware_Group user group may be created even if the installer indicates the system has not been modified
  • LPS and the Notification Agent - The Loftware Notification Agent and the Loftware Print Server must be in the same sub domain.
  • Windows Printers - LPS/LLM do not account for Windows printer margins.
  • QR Code Modes - The current implementation of QR Code does NOT support Extended Channel Interpretation (ECI) mode or FNC1 modes in the Loftware Print Sever or the Loftware Label Manager.
  • I2of5 with Bearer Bars Resizing - When using the drag handles to shrink an I2of5 bar code with bearer bars, the bar code may actually grow.
  • Force Max # Char - The Do not force Max # Char setting is not honored on text fields when processing drop file .
  • Detailed Status - When Fail on Errors is enabled, the wrong status type is reported after failure.
  • Adobe Acrobat Printer - When using an Adobe Acrobat printer version 9.0 or higher, the Loftware Print Server may stop printing, and jobs will go into a pending state. This occurs when the LPS is run as a service, and the cause appears to be a defect in the most recent versions of Adobe Acrobat. If you restart LPS, printing will resume until the issue appears again. Note: Adobe Acrobat version 7.0 does not exhibit this behavior, nor does it occur when the LPS is run in interactive mode. If an older version of Adobe Acrobat is not available an alternative PDF printer driver may need to be evaluated for your environment based on your system requirements.
  • Disabling Detailed Status - When you disable Detailed Status, the Disable Status Checking and Force Extended Mode options remain enabled (they are enabled when Detailed Status Checking is enabled) on the Configuring Existing Device Connection Settings dialog. You must clear these options after disabling detailed status to disable them.
  • LWReporter - The Loftware Reporter Utility will NOT locate and report on Windows printers that are configured in LPS, if that printer does not have a corresponding driver on the computer. This can happen if you configure the LPS and printers on one computer, and then move the LPS and the printer configuration files (printr32.ini, printr32.cfg, printr32.lfg) to a new computer.

Loftware Print Server Version 8.1 - Release Notes January 2005

    Feature Details
96-bit RFID Tag Support Complies with the latest version of the EPC specification document version 1.1 revision 1.26. This specification resolved several problems with 96 bit encoding.
Direct Socket Interface (DSI) This interface allows your application to send an XML file to the TCP/IP address that the LPS is listening. The requests in the XML file are subsequently printed. This is a very simple way to make label requests on a large scale without having to perform complex socket coding or sharing drives.
Calculated EPC codes Get the computed EPC data back to your application if using the socket or .NET interfaces to LPS. This allows your application to store the calculated EPC codes for each print event. Fields within the EPC code are passed back as well.
New XML Parser The new XML Parser refines the parsing of large scale XML requests with a marked increase in performance and reliability.
Added RFID Printer Support Support added for the following RFID printers:
    • Datamax I-4212, I-4308,I-4406, I-4604, I-4210

Loftware Print Server Version 7.1 - Release Notes February 2003

    Feature Details
USB Printing Loftware now supports USB Connections - Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a protocol used for connecting computer peripherals to a PC. USB provides an expandable, hot-pluggable Plug and Play serial interface that ensures a standard, low-cost connection for peripheral devices. Migration to USB is recommended for all printers that use legacy ports such as the PS/2, serial, and parallel ports. Up to 127 USB devices can be connected to one PC! A main feature of the USB standard is that it allows many computer peripherals (such as printers) to be easily swapped for another without having to turn off the computer. USB 1.1 currently supports a data transfer rate of 12 megabits per second. This high speed gives USB quite an edge over standard serial and parallel connections.
ActiveX Client Control The ActiveX Client Control now has the functionality to connect to the LPS through a socket connection, similar to our On-Demand Print Client and our Status Client. This allows you to get Job Status information, send files faster, and since the connection uses an IP address, you can even send files between different networks!
